Foot Care

A foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles. Beauty starts with the feet. Even the most beautiful face can show the strain of tired, aching feet. Lack of awareness of proper care like wearing ill fitting shoes are partly the reasons to bring on feet problems. But women usually persuade themselves to sacrifice comfort for smartness. That`s why, the following simple tips and exercises will help a great deal when the feet have been constricted in all day.

  • Foot CareMake sure that you always dry your feet properly, even in between the toes!

  • Exfoliate your feet often - once a week.

  • Apply medicated foot powders, anti-perspirant and refreshing foot sprays.

  • Massage for relaxation and to get the blood circulation going.

  • Cut your toe nails straight across to avoid in growing nails.

  • Wear cotton socks to absorb moisture from your feet.

  • Always buy correct fitting shoes.

  • Alternate your footwear. If possible wear shoes that will let your feet breathe - either a sandal or leather shoes.

  • Always remember to keep your implements clean: if they are left dirty they may harbour germs and cause infections.

  • Exercises

    Foot Exercise
  • Sit with legs crossed. Rotate the feet six times towards each other and six times away from each other.

  • Sit with legs stretched straight out in front. Bend the toes up as far as possible and then down as far as possible.

  • Put a pencil on the floor and try to pick it up with your toes. This will strengthen the feet.

  • Sit on a chair with feet on the floor and spread out the toes as far as you can. This will tone up the feet muscles.

  • If you have troubled feet, consult a chiropodist. The trouble generally is caused by a fungus and is very contagious. It starts by a slight redness and itching but as it gets worse the skin flakes off in white shreds. After bathing, it is essential to dry well between the toes and to dust with a medicated talcum powder.

  • If the condition does not clear up, it is better to go to a chiropodist for the treatment of corns and ingrown toenails. Applying white iodine can treat small corns at home. However, avoid pressure on the corn by covering it with a special pad from lambs` wool.

  • The feet troubles never occur if you give your feet regular pedicures. Soaking the feet in warm water to which bath-salts or special foot-salts have been added can be very soothing, but the feet should be rubbed over afterwards with methylated or eau-de-cologne spirit to counteract any softening effect, When the skin is too soft the corns or blisters easily occur. The toenails should be given as much attention as the nails of the hands.

  • Apart from these exercises, there are other exercises for the feet too, which can be practiced which are as follows:

    Foot Stretch

  • Sit on the floor with your legs in front of you. Loop the towel around your feet. Keeping the heels on the floor, pull with both hands. Use the towel to draw the mid foot and toes towards your body. Hold for few seconds, relax and repeat it 5 times.

  • Ankle StretchAnkle Stretch

  • Sit with your legs straight out in front of you. Point your foot down and then bring it towards you as far as is comfortable. Hold, relax and repeat 10 times.

  • Toe Agility

  • Sit on a chair with a towel on the floor under your toes and stretched out away from your foot. Keeping your foot flat, use your toes to drag, the towel back towards your foot, so that the towel bunches up. Repeat until fatigued.

  • Foot turn in
